Navy and White- Worn Two Different Ways

Let me first just say how much I love Navy. The reason I feel that it is such a great color is because whenever I wnat to wear a darker color with my outfit, but maybe not black, I can reach for navy. It's professional, chic, and can be paired well with various colors.

Turning 21!

This is the outfit I wore for my 21st birthday! I had an amazing day. My boyfriend surprised me with my favorite flowers,  family and my friends sent cards, gifts and I went to dinner followed by the bar with my friends.

One of the reasons I wanted to write this blog post wasn't just to break down my outfit, but to speak about turning 21. This is a milestone for any young adult, but this should be approached with caution. The excitement for most people comes with the now legal right to drink, but this right should be used responsibly. Always think beyond the moment and use wisdom whenever you choose to consume alcoholic beverages.

Tube Tops...a Do or Don't?

So if you're asking my opinion on tube tops, I obviously think they're a do...however, within certain limits. Because a tube top already exposes  so much up top, it's best to pair this item with something that isn't quite as revealing. For example, the first outfit that is featured I paired a white tube top with a navy flowy skirt that goes below the knee. For the second outfit I paired a black tube top with white jeans.

My personal rules for wearing a tube top:
1. Don't show too much.
-Tube tops are normally form-fitting and bare the shoulders, so leave something to the imagination.
2. Pair them with high-waisted shorts, maxi skirts and pencil skirts that hit right at the knee or an inch above.
3. You can also pair them with a scarf to appear less revealing.
4. Necklaces or earrings ALWAYS look great with a tube top.
5. Because these tops are naturally form-fitting  make sure to choose the correct size for your bust and waist.
6. BE CONFIDENT! It's the most important accessory for any outfit.

Sister's Trip

My sister and I took our first road trip by ourselves...we're growing up lol! One of my favorite authors had a book signing for her new book and we went to Hotlanta for that. We had such a great time together. I'd like to encourage all of you to spend time with your siblings and nourish that relationship.

The top photo is what I wore on the road, throw on a maxi and some bangles and you can't go wrong!

Great Read!

Hi ladies! I wanted to take the time to introduce you to another segment that will be apart of the blog...books. I loveeeee to read. I get this trait from my mom. I was a true bookworm when I was younger, check out a book one day, finish it that night, and return the next day for another. I fell off reading for a while, but recently got back into it during my internship at Disney.  Now I am back to my bookworm days! Now that I'm older I appreciate a good book as a way to unwind after a long day. So I'll be featuring books that I'm currently reading, and have read, to share with you and hopefully discuss and have our own online book club!

This book that is featured is called "Always Something There to Remind Me" by Beth Harbison. The book is about a woman named Erin who loses a first love in high school. What Erin doesn't realize at the time is that Nate might have been "the one". This story goes through the emotions of losing a first love(we all remember breaking up with our high school boyfriends), trying to find it again, and all of the emotions that come with it. This book took me back to high school, and also made me think of everything I felt when I was falling in love with my boyfriend that I'm dating now. This book solidified Beth Harbison as one of my favorite authors.

What kinds of books do you like to read? Do share, because I am ALWAYS on the lookout for a good read(-:

Style Spotlight!

These two beautiful ladies are members of my Church and I LOVED what they each wore to service that day! In reference to the top picture, I think it is so cute how Vicky paired her cognac-colored sandals with her orange dress( which, by the way looks AMAZING against her olive-skin). Mary(now my Aunt Mary!) looks so classic with this printed LBD and cardigan. This look will always be in style and looks great on anyone. Both outfits are classy, breezy for summer, and affordable. You go ladies!

*Side note- Ladies like I mentioned in the post, one of the reasons Vicky looked so great in her dress is because this orange works wonders for her skin tone. To avoid looking like your clothes are wearing you, figure out what colors work well against your skin tone. Take me for example, I adore pink and orange, however only certain shades of these colors look well on me because of the undertones in my skin. I'll be doing a post about selecting colors for your skin tone soon!

Sometimes it's a hat and hoops kind of day! Ladies, we've all had those days where you don't feel like doing much with your hair or your outfit. Just grab a cute hat, earrings of your choice and of course you can NEVER go wrong with a white tee and jeans!

Informational Interviews, Family Reunions, and...Makeup free?

In this post I'm not going to cover just my usual outfit details and pricing. I traveled to Atlanta for my boyfriend's family reunion(kind of a big deal meeting the whole family for the first time!), and since I was already going to be there I decided to take advantage of the opportunity and do some networking.

I am a marketing major and being business-minded is just in my blood...I get it from my Daddy(-:. I decided not to take any classes this summer( a sista was getting burned out going to school year-round!), but I still wanted to take the opportunity to learn on my own. So I took it upon myself to make some cold calls to various advertising and marketing agencies in Hotlanta. Many of them were busy, but one was gracious enough to take the time and meet with me for an informational interview.

An informational interview is when an individual or a company that you have interest in, gives you 15-20 minutes of their time to answer any questions you may have about the company or industry. The young woman I met with was an operations manager at an agency in Atlanta. I had several questions about the agency, what kind of clients they worked with, their history, and what appeals to them about prospective employees. I also had questions for her about a subject that I've been struggling with- the decision of whether or not to go to graduate school. We had a great conversation and I left knowing more than when I went in, which is ALWAYS important.

My main point for writing about this is to encourage you that if there is something you want to do, but don't yet have the knowledge, SEEK IT OUT! It is never a bad thing to take the initiative a seek out information. Whether that information comes from google, a book, newspaper, or a person just get the information.

The other topic I wanted to cover was going makeup free. As you can see in two of the pictures, and most of my posts, I'm not wearing makeup. By me saying this my purpose is not to condemn you beautiful ladies that do choose to wear makeup, but to let you know that you are just as beautiful with or without it. I'm going to do another post soon covering this topic but I just wanted to post this to show what I look like with and without cosmetic products.

Style Spotlight!

In this style spotlight I'm featuring one of my beautiful Old Navy coworkers- Dominique! I fell in love with her jumpsuit for many reasons.

Jumpsuits are easy breezy when it comes to wear, and prints make them even more lovable. Dominique found this jumpsuit at Walmart for a low price.

My family and I traveled to Washington for a family reunion this past summer and I chose this outfit for traveling. My hair wasn't cooperating so I chose this scarf to add some interest and color to my outfit and take the attention away from my hair.

Product Recommendation

I wanted to share this product with all you lovely manicure junkies. I've been religiously using this product for about four years now. I've had so many of my girlfriends and family members tell me that after wearing polish and having acrylic manicures for years their nails are weak and dry.

I always recommend this product because I am an avid user of nail polish. I change the polish on my toes every other week, no polish during the winter, and the polish on my nails once a week. In order for me to do this my nails have to be healthy and this is one of the things I use to do it. To insure healthy nails, apply this product as a base coat under the nail polish color of your choice.

If you're nails aren't as healthy as they used to be, try this and let me know how it turns out!

Style Spotlight!

I'm featuring my sister in this style spotlight. I love everything about how she styled this outfit. The glasses, denim, flats, and her hair, but most of all the vest. I love the details, but mostly I love that it came from a thrift store which means it was very inexpensive.

I wanted to keep my accessories simple because of the design of the dress, but still add some color, so I went for this bracelet and gold hoops.

Considering that black and white will always be classic, I thought this was a great selection for Church. But, my favorite touch is the Aztec-printed clutch. Aztec print has been really big for the past two years and I can definitely understand why!

When wearing the Aztec print, whether it be a skirt, handbag, shoes, etc., try to keep it to a minimum of one piece with your outfit. Much like any other print, if you mix it with to many prints it can get too busy.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie!

Smoothies are a great drink to indulge whether your're trying to lose weight or just stay healthy because they are good for you and can be very filling!

1. What you'll need:
- 4-5 strawberries
- 1 banana
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 cup of milk
- 3/4 cup of ice

2. What to do:
-Combine all of the ingredients into the blender until it is smooth.
-If it is not sweet enough I would recommend adding two teaspoons of a natural sweetener.
-Drink up and enjoy!

*With some smoothie recipes you can use yogurt instead of milk, depending on your preference and what is available in your refrigerator(-:

I wore this outfit to have dinner with some of my girlfriends at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. I purchased this sweater because it is light enough to be worn during the summer with shorts or boyfriend jeans, but warm enough to be worn in the winter. Keep visiting to see how I put this item together with other outfits!
